Round 3 Replay Loss to Hampton Park
MASTERS REPORT BY MANAGER - J.WALKER
To All ,
We made our way out to Hampton Park for a replay of the washed out Rd 3 fixture, indeed a very early start to the new year & seeking redemption for the amazing loss in the previous round at home prior to Xmas , that loss had brought about some harsh decisions at the selection table.
In rather warm conditions Our dual Master of the Universe & inspiring skipper lost the toss but surprising the opposition asked us to bat ( a little bit more on that later).
An emotion charged pre game address emploring his charges to get back to basics & enjoy the game would not have been out of place in a Ron Barassi or Allan Jeans half time grand final speech
Anyway Pete & Andy had little trouble in seeing of the opening bowlers taking the score to 37 but as so often happens a change of bowler brings about a wicket as Andy tried to smash the ball literally thru the bowler only for him to hang on a very sharp caught & bowled , Pete & Woz took the score to 54 before Pete was out caught but not after he showed why he so highly regarded & feared in the competition , one lofted cover drive to the fence would've had Viv Richards asking man who is this Peter Haycroft dude.( best said in a West Indes accent)
The intrepid leader & Woz then got together & put together a record masters partnership of 88 before Woz was out chasing runs for a chanceless 48 , Rod retired soon after for a well made 51 (dropped 6 times) , Mark Stringer came & went quickly in search on quick runs before Laurie was joined by the hard hitting Angus Crellin that pair added 25 in the last few overs before Angus was run out on the final ball for 9 which included a lofted on drive for four in the last over that had the crowd in raptures , Laurie was 8 not out at the end we ended our 36 overs with 5 for 171 , a very good score considering the outfield wasnt the fastest .
After consuming numerous alcoholic beverages during the lunch break & while fielding , Hampton Park started their innings in a blaze of glory hammering the attack of Haycroft & Morris to all parts before a run out with the score on 58 saw one of the openers out for a hard hitting 47 , Masters virgin & leg spinner Chris Bibby took the 2nd wicket with a vicious spinning leg break out of the rough bowling the batsman .
Master of the Universe then brought himself on in tandem with Masters Bradman Woz & they set about decimating the middle order then with wickets falling at one end the other opener had moved on to 49 before he offered A very sharp caught & bowled to Woz which he was unable to hold on to , so he retired at 50 & was able to come back in if required .
Masters apprentice Ryan Stringer was thrown the ball & clean bowled a bloke first ball then Andy Morris came on again for a 2nd spell & had their no. 11 batsman brilliantly caught at slip by Mark Stringer leaving them needing 12 off 2 overs to win with the opener able to resume his innings , in a pressure situation 8 lucky runs came off the 35th over needing only 4 runs off the final over to be bowled by the heroic skipper trying to drag his warriors over the line , a dot ball off the 1st ball was adding pressure to the batting side , then a lofted shot that flew in the direction of Andy Morris only to fall just out of reach saw 2 runs scampered , 1 run off 4 balls 1 wicket needed , still anyones game , then a shot into the gap at square leg saw the winning runs scored , the over was bowled out & Hampton Park ended on 9 for 177 .
Another bloody loss, but I think the game was the winner .

Masters Report - Round 2:
Fellow Warriors ,
We finally took to the field in very chaff worthy conditions away at Doveton Nth , after some late wheeling & dealing we played with ten , Master of the Universe & Captain Rod Masson won the toss & decided to bat .
Both opening bats Stroudy & Rocket were both back in the pavillon with the score on 23 before gun import Woz (strained hammy in 1st overof batting) & Rod steadied the ship until Rod decided to try & clear the Monash freeway only to run down the wicket, take an almighty swing , miss the ball , turn around & see the ball hit the stumps almost on the 2nd bounce , Woz was joined buy up & coming star Pete Haycroft with Woz playing the agressor & retiring on a well made 50 .
Pete was joined by Masters debutant Mike Dyer & they took the score to 130 when Pete was dismissed before being given out LBW by Rocket for a well made 22 , in a mini collaspe Kim was then bowled 1st ball & pinch hitter Max was in facing a hat trick , Max survived the hat trick then flayed some very juicy full tosses & was dismissed for a quick fire 17 , Gerry came in & joined Mike and was dismissed for 3 , that brought first gamer Angus Crellin to the wicket for his first bat in around 20 years , but unfortunately Mike was dismissed chasing quick runs & Woz came back to join Angus needing 50 runs off 17 balls to record the 1st Masters Ton , a quick call made to SportsBet confirmed Woz at $41 to make the ton & after the first ball was driven thru mid-off for 4 the odds where tumbling & crowd went beserk in the hope of witnessing a Tendulkar like attack on the bowling , but in true Mordi style Woz was bowled next ball for 54 thus leaving Angus stranded up the other end without facing a ball & paying $501 for the ton , Mordi all out in the 34th over for 167 .
Feeling pretty confident they had enough runs on the board & tea under there belt the boys took the field in Madras like conditions & the new ball combo of Max & Pete bouyed by his recent dismissal of the coach & legend bowled without luck at times & at times abit short at others as the openers put on around 35 before the ball was chucked to debutant Angus keen to make amends with the ball struck twice in his first over with both batsmen being caught by emerging competition star Pete Haycroft at mid off , after match comments passed around stated the Haycroft safe hands had moved into the Mark Waugh territory.
They had one of their openers retire at 50 in about the 20th over but once he retired the runs dried up during a superb spell between Stroudy 2 for 14 off 6 & Woz fresh from his batting heroics taking 1 for 3 off 5 overs , they ended up batting their alloted 36 overs & were restricted to 5 for 123 , a good win under trying weather conditions .
3 Votes - Tony Woinarski 54 runs & 1 for 3 off 5 overs
2 Votes - Peter Haycroft 22 runs , 3 catches & 0 for 19 off 6 overs
1 Vote - Jeff Stroud 2 for 14 off 6 overs & 5 runs .
