TINMAN NOTE: 20/1/2009

"My identity as the Tinman is quite obvious to the Mordialloc CC community, but I'm
here to say that I am NOT the tinman on a rival club's forum and that someone is
obviously posting negative remarks under my nickname. I would like the person behind the posts to stop doing so. Even if it may be seen as a bit of fun but don't drag me into it. Thanks, The Tinman"

TINMAN: January 14, 2010.
After much speculation about the Tinman’s future, He is now back with the latest edition of what’s happening at the Bloodhound Gang.

Firstly, as a witness to Tuesday’s T20 game vs. Hampton, I was a little disappointed with the level of entertainment that was lacking. Being a regular viewer to the very exciting KFC Big Bash, I have become familiar to how good the T20 format can be. Last night did not fit this category. From the sidelines, it really didn’t look like anything but a regular one day game, and with it being a friendly it should have been all about entertainment and seeing the clubs best big hitters and the players better eqipped to the format. So here is whom I would have liked to see at Tuesday’s game.

  1. Matt Newman
  2. Ben Campbell
  3. Aaron Martello
  4. Travis Campbell ©
  5. Mat Campbell
  6. Vinny Muruhesapillai
  7. Aaron Freeman
  8. Tim Mavric
  9. Nic Connellan
  10. Liam Bence
  11. Shane Jolly
  12. Andrew Taylor
  13. Jim Baird (guest fielder)

No offence to the ones I have left out but I’m sure they would have enjoyed the game with a bit more T20 star power in the game. Unfortunately the game didn’t live up to expectation. What is needed is to pick the side according to the occasion and chuck a bit of music on and maybe even some old fashioned mercantile signs!

Now there are rumours going around that the Mordialloc Cricket Club is in talks with 2 high profile names to co-host the Junior Presentation Night of Nights. Stay tuned as more news comes to hand.

But for now, I only had the time Manders spends at the crease to write this Tinman, so explains the shortness of it.

I am the Tinman, and I’m……. Awesome!

Tinman - Oct 30 2009

Key Features in this month’s Tinman:

  • First XI in 5-7 years time predictions.
  • Tinman Awards Predictions
  • Turf 1 to umm Turf 5

First XI 2014/15 (give or take)

Stuart Squires – likely to be still gracing us with his presence and will be holding a top order position in the ones. Candidate for captaincy

Travis Campbell – Question marks depending on if another million-dollar offer comes through but I think he will still be at Mordialloc. Might be a first change bowler by then haha.

Vinny Muruhesapillai – in his mid 20s by this time and will be a star in the middle order.

Toby Grayling – Will be important to the team’s batting order and will be our first choice wicketkeeper.

Leon Kennedy – Will be still a star until he doesn’t want to play. Will still be vital to the top order. Candidate for captaincy.

Tim Richardson – Another star batsman that would still be valuable to the first XI in 5 years time. Another candidate for captaincy.

Matt Newman – Will be a seasoned firsts player now and should add depth to the batting line-up

Cameron Tomkinson – A batsman that has improved so much over the last 2 years at Mordialloc and see him taking a spot in the middle order and offering some strength to the bowling.

Jakob Fidler – Will definitely be taking the new ball with his left arm swing and by then his fielding would be much better and his batting will have improved.

Niranjen Kumar – Likely to return to Mordialloc after his stint with Dandenong and will slot in with his handy bowling and lower order batting. Candidate for captaincy.

Veroshan Sripragasan – Could be the X-Factor with both ball and bat. Still needs development.

  1. T. Richardson
  2. M. Newman
  3. L.Kennedy
  4. S.Squires
  5. V.Muruhesapillai

  8. V. Sripragasan
  9. C. Tomkinson

Players that could feature (but just couldn’t make up my mind): Liam Bence, Brett Ernst, Jonno Whelan, Luke Mason, Luke Manders, Dave Beckett, Huy Do, Jack Hobley, Harry Masson, Vishnu Chari, Cam Patton, Alex Rae,

TINMAN PREDICTIONS:

BATTING

1sts –     Leon Kennedy
2nds –    Vishnu Chari
3rds -     Jerome Mendis
4ths -     Andrew Jamieson
5ths -     Dave Auld

BOWLING

1sts –     Travis Campbell
2nds –    Liam Bence
3rds –    Ben Campbell
4ths –    Jakob Fidler
5ths –    Dave Auld

Club Champion – Ben Campbell
Cricketer of the Year – Travis Campbell

Beckett/Squires Sprint-off: Dave Beckett by a good distance. We all know that last year Beckett was suffering from hamstring tightness and plus he didn’t like running in the dark, so this year it will be in the daytime, where there is nowhere to hide.

Make sure you pop down to the club on Cup Day for the Barrier Run between Squires and Beckett. See you all there!

The Tinman was wondering around the rooms of the Mordialloc Sporting Club on a Friday afternoon when he bumped into a few people in the Bob Martello Room and started chewing the fat (no we weren’t eating a delicious steak) about the team set-up at Mordialloc and there were some valuable points. The jump up to Turf 1 at the end of last season was all good and showed the strength of the club but the thing that worries a few is that our 2nd XI is wondering around 4 grades deeper than our top side making it difficult for players to go up and down as there is such a massive jump in standards. It will be hard to judge just how good a player is really going when playing in Turf 5 before picking them in Turf 1. Cause really, you would think that the majority of the Turf 5 player across the league wouldn’t be good enough for Turf 1 but could still take quite a lot of wickets and score plenty of runs.

But the problem is, how faraway are the 2nds from winning a flag? Our 2nd grade sides haven’t had much success over the past few years so it might be a while since this could ever be fixed. Just a problem that was raised by some characters in the Bob Martello Room.

Mordialloc Football Club have overcame some very dark years to make finals last year and win one of the two, but with some murmurings around the ground suggesting they need some class out of the backline, rumours are very hot that coach Aaron Martello is looking at out of contracted player Stuart Squires to bolster the backline. Squires was probably on his way to his first best and fairest when injury took him down as he broke his leg, but now he is fitter than Brett Ernst now so it looks like he has a real future ahead of him. Watch this space, as other potential players are being looked at by the Mordialloc match-day committee to get them to a flag they desperately need.

In smaller news but bright for the future, Lance Draper and other important members of the committee presented to the media that James ‘Jim’ Baird has been confirmed as the Under 16s Assistant Coach. This is seen a massive coup as many clubs were looking to acquire his services. Lance Draper wasn’t available for comment late last night.

Did anyone noticed how many players that have played 1st Grade cricket at Mordialloc over the last 2-3 years were playing in D Grade cricket last round?

There isn’t much romance going on at the moment but there is a bit of love story happening at the club with our International Pro playing Romeo to a local blonde. But there is some talk that Romeo is going as well as Nobel Stylish but we will just have to watch this space.

For now, I’m the Tinman and I’m back at training finally so I’m very sorry to all the bowlers who I tend to belt around the ground and to the batsman who get tricked by my sharp-turning offies.

Good Luck to Bruce Dingle who flew out to India last night to replace Tim Paine in the Australian side.

Cheers,
The Tinman

Tinman - Sep 2009

With
Tribute to my mate Bronson Silveira (who has left for New Zealand), its been absolutely been fantastic playing alongside you for the last decade. You’re a teammate who I could play alongside forever cause you play competitively but not over-serious like some do! Its been awesome, throughout the junior days till the last time we played together where you got 6fa and I caught the winning catch off your bowling… simply sensational that day and is still my highlight of my career. We at Mordi will miss ya cause you are truly a Mordialloc player through and through!

Just having a chat to someone the other day down at the MORDIALLOC SPORTING CLUB, yes I did say MORDIALLOC SPORTING CLUB!!! (Found on Main Street, Mordialloc) and we were discussing who were the best batsmen that I have seen down at Mordialloc over my time at the club and without doubt the 2 names that sprung to mind were Aaron Martello and Leon Kennedy. I always remember as a junior going to watch these 2 master their craft. The good things about these 2 that they are both simply amazing to watch and like to score quickly without fuss. A recent spectacular by Martello was the innings of 33 against HSD in the one dayer where he just demolished the bowling attack leading us to another win.

To anyone who has been watching the Mordi footy club this year, how bloody good is Sam Hobley, absolute star and I’m sure Mordi will have to try their hardest to keep him at the club cause he will be in high demand and really a local club should look after local players. Well done to Aaron and all the guys for their magnificent year!

Make sure players get a SPONSOR this year too, any local businesses you know, get them involved. The Tinman has found a sponsor and he thanks Les Cargill for his donation and he won’t let him down.

I’m the Tinman
And Go the CATS!!

Tinman - Aug 2009

With some popular demand, the Tinman returns!!! Now as reported in my last Tinman, that Stuart Squires was appointed as Captain and now, since then has relinquished the job to the new captain/coach Ernst.

I can’t believe somehow Squires gets another write up, but lets focus on the future seasons at the club and where the 4-time premiership winner fits in. The club is young and quite a determined bunch of people and with Squires still having the best years of his cricket ahead of him, he is destined to be the Joel Selwood of Mordialloc, definitely destined to be captain, it’s now just a question of when. I had the opportunity last week to sit down with Skirvo and chew the fat. Lets face it, the club didn’t handle the captaincy issue too well BUT Stuart is comfortable not captaining the club this season. He’s set for a big year and I hope he’s not wasted batting too low.

As all reports suggest, off spinner Nic Connellan will miss the entire first half of the season with hip problems denying him the opportunity to play but with Nic, you just never know cause he has such a taste for competition that once September is completed, he may be in. Stay tuned!

As the world is trying to find Newton-Johns boyfriend and missing girl Madeleine, the Tinman was out and about last week in search for Bronson Silveira, the reports that he was in New Zealand, but no one I have spoken to has confirmed this so, that’s why I’m making this public plea. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Brono (not Bruno) can they please contact the club, the Tinman or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

In bits to consider, England is a disgrace with players like the BopMan, Bell, Swanny and Harmison running around, its time to bring back “the kash”. Surely Jade Rawlings isn’t going to be tigers coach after tigers looking like nothing but a Terry Wallace led side on Sunday against the Swans. My smoky for an AFL job is Todd Viney plus speaking of outside chances, SIMON BLACK!

For now, Stay UP N ABOUT
I’m the Tinman
